BOCHONOW: Innovative UV LED technology for screen and pad printing

Bochonow Maschinenbau GmbH is presenting an innovative solution for UV exposure and drying in screen and pad printing at this year's SPI trade fair in Essen.

This development is particularly relevant in view of the upcoming legal changes in the European Union: In February 2027, the current exemption authorisation for the use of mercury in medium and high-pressure UV lamps will expire. Although an EU working group is currently looking into the possibility of a further extension, future decisions will be made on an individual basis depending on the application. A complete ban on mercury lamps therefore remains a realistic scenario.

Bochonow Maschinenbau has been working intensively on alternatives to conventional UV technology for several years now. With the development of a powerful UV LED exposure unit, LED-lite, the company has succeeded in bringing a future-proof solution onto the market that has already proven itself many times over in practical use.

However, the previous version was limited to a maximum screen size of 1400 x 1900 mm. Bochonow has now succeeded in designing the UV LED units as flexible tripod or hanging lamps, allowing larger screen formats to be exposed efficiently for the first time. This opens up new possibilities for industrial use and at the same time improves sustainability in the pre-press stage.

The new technology has numerous advantages. The significantly lower energy consumption not only reduces power consumption, but also the space required - because the distance to the copy frame disc is much smaller than with conventional systems. The simplified electrical installation and compatibility with standard copy layers also increase the practicality. In addition, the reduced energy input ensures significantly less heating of the copy glass panes, which considerably minimises the risk of warping, stretching or shrinkage of originals and stencils.

The system is complemented by the modern TOUCH exposure computer, which replaces outdated control units and is also available as a conversion kit for existing systems. Bochonow Maschinenbau thus offers an economical option for modernising existing infrastructure.
